Camila Avella was crowned as Miss Universe Colombia 2023. A mother of a daughter has created history as the first married Colombian woman to win this presitigious title. Camila will represent Colombia in the Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador this November 18. She is 27 years old and hails from Yopal, Colombia. Camila is married to businessman Nassif Kamle, who works with his family in the textile industry in several Latin American countries. The new queen is the successor of María Fernanda Aristizábal.In 2018, Avella was supposed to represent Casanare in a national beauty pageant. However, she was disqualified because she had a manager and an existing employment contract with a television channel. For a long time, she had dreamed of winning a national pageant and representing her country on the international platform. On September 2, 2023, Avella represented Casanare at Mexicana Universal 2023 and competed against 23 other candidates at the Puerta de Oro Centro de Eventos del Caribe in Puerta de Oro, Barranquilla, Colombia. She won the title, making her Colombia’s Miss Universe 2023 candidate. Runner-up to Avella was Adriana Catalina Numa Vega, 24, of Norte de Santander. Lina María Hurtado Mosquera, 24, of Buenaventura was second runner-up. On November 18, 2023, Avella will represent Colombia at Miss Universe 2023 in San Salvador, El Salvador. She is the second mother confirmed to compete in the international beauty pageant following Michelle Cohn, 28, who was crowned Miss Universe Guatemala 2023 on August 6, 2023.
The panel of judges was made up of the former Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza; Tatyana Orozco, businesswoman from Barranquilla and who has already been a Miss Universe jury; Jason Co, CFO of O Skin Care; Cesar Velilla, doctor and plastic surgeon, and Aysjel Antonia Bernadette Maria, director of Miss Universe Curaçao.
Before getting married, Avella was supposed to represent Casanare at Señorita Colombia 2018. However, she was disqualified because she had a manager, Fernan Martinez, and an existing employment contract as a host of the TV show “Desafio Super Humanos” on Caracol Television. On December 25, 2019, Kamle proposed to Avella and she said yes. They got married on June 20, 2020 and they welcomed their daughter Amelia Kamle Avella in April 2021.
