The biggest Thai transgender beauty pageant Miss Tiffany’s Universe was held on 4 February 2024 at Tiffany’s Show Pattaya, Thailand. The winner was Peemai Saruda Panyakham from Tak Province who was undeniably the front runner in the competition. She had been competing since 2013 for five years until finally winning this year’s coveted crown.

In addition, the contest is open to all transgender women who may or may not have gone through sex reassignment surgery. For instance, “Ladyboy” or “kathoey” are commonly used terms in Thailand to describe transgender women. Furthermore, about 100 candidates from across Thailand apply to take part in the pageant. At this point, all contestants need to have Thai nationality and be between the age of 18 and 25. Then contestants under the age of 20 are required to obtain parental permission to be eligible.

Despite of the open nature of the LGBTQI+ community who are visible in the Thai society, transgender people still lack support in official paperworks. Due to this disadvantage, transgender women are unable to compete in the mainstream Thai beauty pageants like Miss Universe Thailand. Therefore, Miss Tiffany’s Universe beauty pageant was born to provide platform for transgender women to speak up about important causes which effect their daily lifes and make positive impact on the society.

Meanwhile, The celebration ceremony had spectacular production, and vibrant colors to embody the joy and happiness of the LGBTQIA+ community in Thailand. The winner went to Peemai Saruda, meanwhile, her court consists of Kachisarah Sridakhot of Khon Kaen and Jesselyn Nakprasit from Saraburi Province. Peemai will represent the Kingdom of Thailand at the upcoming Miss International Queen 2024 beauty pageant later this year.

Who is Miss Tiffany’s Universe 2023?

A flight attendant for American Airlines, creating history as the first Thai transgender woman to work for a prestigious international flight company. Graduate of Bachelor’s degree in Dramatics and Theatre Arts from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University and Aviation degree from New York, USA. Since 2022, she has advocated for children’s protection, education, and rights, Peemai has been Campus Ambassador for UNICEF Champions and UNICEF USA. Although, growing up in a remote village called Phop Phra District located in the southwestern part of Tak Province.

Get to know Peemai Saruda

She faced hardships and was unable to receive a quality education in her village which led her to move to Chiang Mai for further studies. Her life experience has inspired her to provide a safe space for Thai children at the school, to improve the quality of education while developing innovative minds to flourish into a successful future. At this point, Peemai hopes to be the fifth woman from Thailand to win the significant crown of Miss International Queen 2024. The reigning winner is Solange Dekker of the Netherlands who will finally hand over her crown to her successor this summer. Due to her resilience, dedication, and determination have inspired many people to never give up on their dreams.
