Miss Universe 1970 Marisol Malaret Contreras has died at age 73

Puerto Rico – Yesterday the Miss Universe 1970 Marisol Malaret Contreras passed away at age 73 years old. Marisol was the first Puerto Rican woman to win the Miss Universe crown as well as the first woman from the Caribbean. According to the New York Times – Her historical victory was celebrated by her countrymen, with a grand homecoming event with over 50,000 people turned out in San Juan to honor the Queen at San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, then known as Isla Verde International Airport. She had opened the doors for many Puerto Rican women to shine at the international pageant through four more Miss Universe winners in the future. Thanks to her accomplishment, many pageant community love and admire the beauty queens from Puerto Rico as being professional, good at stage presence, and overall package. Marisol passed away earlier today. Beautiful, elegant, and smart, she was kind and an excellent professional. We feel deeply sad about her death, however, we know she will keep on shining bright, now closer to God.
