Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2023 Karla Guilfu was crowned as the representative for the Caribbean island nation of Puerto Rico for the 72nd edition Miss Universe 2023 pageant in El Salvador. The national competition was held at the Centro de Bellas Artes de Santurce in San Juan. The outgoing queen Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2022 Ashley Carino crowned Karla Guilfu has her successor. Xarimar Acevedo Pabón of Río Grande was named first runner-up while Kiara Rivera Escudero of Toa Baja, Fiorella Medina Pérez of Isabela, and Isarel Marielis Román Almeda of San Lorenzo were the second, third, and fourth runners-up, respectively.
The 24-year-old psychology graduate hailing from Esmeralda del Sur, Patillas. Alongside winning the main title, she won Mujer de Valor award from L’Oréal Paris for her social advocacy regarding Mental Health. She had previously won the Miss Supranational Puerto Rico at Nuestra Belleza Puerto Rico 2020 and went on to compete in Miss Supranational 2021 where she placed first runner-up. Her advocacy is about Mental Health and raising awareness about this social issue on the global platform of Miss Universe.

Question: What would you tell a young girl or woman who is suffering from low self-esteem?
I would tell her to find the courage for professional help. Right now, we are experiencing situations in our country that increasingly affect our mental health. In my past I experienced difficult situations related to Mental Health. I sought help I empowered myself with different tools and that is what she seeks to do Through my organization and my message so that others also do the same so my message is that look in the mirror. Seek help, get inspired because the power that dwells in you the universe needs it.
